Red Green with a roll of duct tape
When I was a lot younger, my father got me into "The Red Green Show" on TV. The show was a comedy about a not-so-handy handyman named Red Green who fixed everything with duct tape. Yes, that really is his first and last name. Red and his friends, Harold and Bill, are members of a club called the Possum Lodge located in Canada. During the show, Red, Harold, and Bill teach men how to be not only handy,  but also crafty while resorting to duct tape as the preferred material for keeping everything all together. For example, using duct tape, they made a "kiddie ride from a bar stool attached to the agitator of a washing machine".

You laugh and call this completely ridiculous but, this show was on the air for 15 years (1991-2006)! And, don't you remember that period of time where people made wallets and purses out of duct tape? Is that still a thing? I swear, Red was on to something.

Anyway, on my drive up from North Carolina, I was listening to the radio and the announcers were chatting about the question "how is duct tape holding your life together?" They asked people to call in with their answers. One woman called in and explained that she used it to create a bra in an emergency situation...um. Ouch. A handful of others called in and I remembered - yes, you guessed it! - Red Green! He held his entire life together with duct tape. I had a good laugh about bra-lady and Red Green.

Then I thought about my own life - I wasn't using any duct tape! Did that mean I had it all together? HAHA! No way. There were definitely times the past couple of months during which I wished duct tape could have held my emotions together. Unfortunately, despite learning from all of Red's creative endeavors, duct tape doesn't work like that. But, I do have some fine white duct tape now (did you know they come in COLORS now? Just think of all the fashionable purses and wallets you could make!) that is serving as an air-tight weather seal on my patio dog door. And trust me, that dog door benefits everyone - the dogs run in and out at pleasure and I get to sleep past 6 a.m.

with love,
KB

P.S. While I agree that duct tape can be used to fix a lot of stuff, I do have my own big-girl toolbox, a drill, a sander, some hammers, a saw... and unlike Red, I am very handy!
